CITY SUPERINTENDENT JOB DESCRIPTION

  11. Must attend training and become certified as a water & a wastewater operator ASAP
  12. Must be a U. S. citizen
  13. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  14. Must live within 30 miles of the City Limits
  15. Must have basic plumbing and electrical skills and experience
  16. Must be capable of strenuous labor and able to lift 75 lbs

EQUIPMENT SKILLS

  1. Must have a valid driver’s license, CDL preferred, and the ability to operate the following equipment:     
    1. Pick Up Truck
    2. Backhoe
    3. Dump Truck with Snow Plow
    4. Tractor and Brush Cutter
    5. Skid Steer
    6. Grasshopper Mower

DUTIES

  1. All Water System Operations Including, but not Limited to:
    1. Checking and Regulating Chemicals
    2. Checking and Regulating Water Tower Levels
    3. Maintain Water Pumps at Wells
    4. Ordering Chemicals
    5. Connecting New Water Services to Water Mains
    6. Setting, Changing and Maintaining Water Meters, Meter Pits and Fire Hydrants
    7. Reading Water Meters Monthly and Upon Request
    8. Finding and Repairing Water Leaks
    9. Collecting and Delivering Bi-Weekly, Annual and All Other Water Samples Required by the State and /or EPA
    10. Attend Training Sessions for Certification and Recertification as Water System Operator
    11. Terminate Water Services for Non-Payment
    12. Turn Water Services On and Off for Customers as Requested
    13. Prepare Annual Report for State
    14. Locate Water Lines When Requested
    15. Keep and Submit Records as Required by the City, State and/or EPA and Provide a Copy to the City Clerk
    16. Daily checks including weekends
  2. All Sewer System Operations Including, but not Limited to:
    1. Check and Maintain Lift Stations
    2. Connect New Sewer Services to Sewer Mains
    3. Report all By-Passes to the State and City Clerk
    4. Collect and Ship Sewer Samples Quarterly
    5. Check and Maintain Sewer Lagoons and Lagoon Site
    6. Maintain Sewer Mains and Manholes
    7. Attend Training Sessions for Certification and Recertification as Sewer System Operator
    8. Locate Sewer Lines When Requested
    9. Keep and Submit Records as Required by the City, State and/or EPA and Provide a copy to the City Clerk
    10. Daily checks including weekends
  3. Do Inspections and Make Reports for Issuing Notices for:
    1. Junk Vehicle Violations
    2. Weed Ordinance Violations
    3. Nuisance Ordinance Violations
    4. Property Clean-Up Notices
    5. Hazardous Properties
    6. Dog or Animal Ordinance Violations
  4. Required to Attend Any Court Hearing at Which the City Superintendent’s Testimony is Needed on Behalf of the City
  5. Keep City Properties Clean and Mowed
  6. Maintenance of All City Buildings
  7. Inspect Blue Building after Use for Deposit Refunds
  8. Clean Street Gutters
  9. Patch and Maintain City Streets, Curbs and Alleys
  10. Maintain City Traffic Signs and Street Signs
  11. Maintain Burning Dump Site
  12. Order Rock for Stockpile and Haul to Residents When Necessary
  13. Clean Snow and Ice from City Streets and Sidewalks at the Municipal and Blue Buildings
  14. Maintain City Equipment
  15. Pick Up and Transport Loose and Stray Dogs
  16. Clean, Paint and Prepare the Pool and Water Features for Opening Each Year
  17. Order Initial Chemicals for Pool
  18. Attend Pool Operator Training / Know How to Regulate Chemical Balance and Test Water in Pool
  19. Maintain Equipment at Pool
  20. Drain and Winterize Pool, Water Features and Pool House at the End of Each Season
  21. Be Available to Report When Called-In for Emergencies (i.e. water leaks, pool equipment problems, water or sewer alarms sounding, etc.)
  22. Meet with Contractors, Engineers, Etc. to Discuss Projects When Necessary
  23. Obtain Bids for Proposed Projects and for Large Purchases as Directed
  24. Purchase Supplies Necessary for Operations and Maintenance – Turn in Receipts to the City Clerk for Verification of Billings
  25. Attend Monthly City Council Meetings and Present a Report of the Work Done During the Previous Month, Work Proposed for the Future, Etc.  Attend Special City Council Meetings as Directed.
  26. Submit Weekly Work Log to the City Clerk
  27. Organize and Maintain the City Shop Department.
  28. Provide an Annual Inventory of All Equipment, Tools and Supplies of the City Shop Department to the City Council by February 1st Each Year.
  29. Put-Up, Take-Down and Maintain the City’s Christmas Decorations
  30. Perform any Other Duties as Directed by the City Council
